2 New Artists in the Gallery

Mary Beach's collages are truly spectacular. Mary was born in the early 1900's, (related to Sylvia Beach who ran Shakespeare & Co. in Paris, published James Joyce, etc.) in a time that still hadn't embraced women's rights. Mary, had the conviction to rely on her own voice then and throughout her life. Her approach to art and life remained progressive, honest and brave into her 80's. She passed away in 2006.
We are delighted to have a collection of her collages available at the Village Hall Gallery. Her work is meticulous in execution, thought provoking, visually stimulating and psychologically complex.
Check in for further postings, we hope there will be a gallery discussion in July about Mary and her work as a painter and collagist.

Nana Daou paints in bold Mediterranean colors that are reminiscent of the time she lived in Lebanon. Her still lifes of bottles are whimsical, playful, expressive and painterly. It is wonderful to have these vibrant paintings on our walls. They work well on their own or as a series.
Nana lives in Manhattan but many of you know her son, Tony, who owns The Black Cat Cafe just 4 doors down from the gallery.
